| You
can support the arts RIGHT NOW!
Art is essential to the vitality of a democratic society. Art education
is an investment in an educated and empathetic citizenry. Artwork, Performances
and Events are economic drivers in a healthy economy. Artists are stewards
of culture, community leaders, checks against political and intellectual
tyranny, and guardians of our highest moral and spiritual values. Supporting
art and artists is an opportunity to invest in society, to show your faith
in people and to experience art more intensely.
A dozen things you can do support the arts right now…
1) GIVE an artist feedback
on their work.
2) VOLUNTEER your time at a performance space like Links
Hall, or a theater like Redmoon.
3) JOIN an art discussion group such as the Little
Arts Society.
4) CREATE a scholarship for an art student privately
or by donating to a school like SAIC.
5) FUND the creation of new work by creating a grant
for an artist.
6) WRITE your President/Senator/Congressperson/Governor/Mayor
and tell them you are a registered voter, that you support the arts, that
you want to see more art education in schools, more funding for the arts,
health insurance for artists, and policy that supports the arts in your
community.
7) REQUEST
more arts coverage from your favorite newspaper, magazines and media
sources.
8) ASK your employer to fund the arts, to invite an artist
to speak to your company, to create a grant, or fund an artist residency.
9) BRING a friend to an art museum, performance event
or reading.
10) INVITE
an artist to speak at your community group.
11) SUBSCRIBE to arts publications.
12) RUN
for office and FIGHT for arts-positive policy.
Like any investment, there comes with it a sense of involvement and ownership
when you invest in the arts. By giving your time, attention, advocacy
and funding to the arts you will actually experience art more intensely
and understand it more clearly. Start now!
