...a heightened sense of reality created by serendipitous responses in and out of the car...
- The New City

"Centered in the car as a place and an idea", Drive By was a show of performances in and around moving vehicles.

The Bee, Direction, and the Driving Lesson was an exploration of leadership, attention and thrills.

Three passengers where invited to create the piece with me. One was asked to be a bee, one to be my navigator, and one to be my driving instructor. The bee was given a stinger and some costume elements, the navigator a map and camera, and the driving instructor had a bullhorn to convey their instructions through. Each had ways to influence the trip and my actions.

People took charge and resisted the responsibility of creating the piece. Each half-hour trip explored a bit of the Wrigleyville neighborhood in Chicago with a different personality. I found the trips nerve wracking as the tension built and shifted about the car.
